I saw this red headed bird in the parking lot of the Manoa shopping center when I arrived; I was excited because I don't know this bird. If anybody can tell me what it is, I'd be grateful...

Here's how I know I'm in Hawaii: the blue, blue of the sky and the brilliant orange of the trees in blossom that I think are called Florida trees; help me out here. I really have no clue but remember that is what they are called.

This was the sunset last night from the 12th floor of Hale Manoa, the dorm where I'm staying. Finally, George, who is one of the leaders of the trip is modelling his new hat from Walgreens. Turns out we don't leave until Wednesday morning, and we are having lectures while we are here; today we learned about the languages of Vietnam, Thailand and Laos as well as the urban planning for some of the SE Asian cities like Hanoi, KL and Jakarta, and Singapore, all of which were built on the square plan used by the Chinese for centures.

Tonight we went out and had Blue Hawaiians, one of which has done me in, so I'm off to sleep until we begin again in the morning.
Hawaii really is succulent and richly green and lush with rain freshening everything at least once a day; I have the scent of my lei and some jasmine flowers wafting through my room. How lucky am I?
